HISTORY

Her Song was founded in 2013 to address the gap in services in the Northeast Florida area for safe housing and trauma-informed programs for sex trafficking survivors. The snare for victims is powerful and life-controlling so services must address these life-altering issues keeping her ensnared. She didn’t choose it. She has been manipulated and coerced into believing lies about herself.  Her potential has been thwarted. When she gets out, we empower her to live out her purpose and achieve the goals she chooses for herself.

The results are stunningly beautiful. The results are empowered ladies going to school, making awesome grades, gaining scholarships, internships,  and employment in their chosen field. More than anything, her heart is healed and whole and she now graces the world with her radiant beauty and confidence. She is free and really alive. Her Song has since assisted over 1000 victims with referral services, recovery support, and programming.

ADDITIONALLY HER SONG HAS

  • Established the first 2 safe houses in the Northeast Florida area with comprehensive trauma-informed, strength-based, post-traumatic-growth focused recovery programming for trafficked females

  • Built strategic partnerships with FBI, JSO, the State Attorney’s Office, St. John’s Sheriff’s Office, the judiciary and many other agencies; chairs the service provider committee for the Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Coalition and serves on the Executive Committee;  serves on a pilot multidisciplinary team to assist survivors with diversion;  and is part of statewide and national referral networks to assist and advocate for victims

  • Established community-based programs offering:

    1. Victim outreach, identification, and referrals

    2. Support groups, economic empowerment groups,
and after care for incarcerated victims

    3. Implemented a research-based economic empowerment program to assist survivors to move out of poverty and into self-sufficiency (based on local data)

  • Established Educational Curriculum: In 2016, in partnership with Duval County Public Schools, a curriculum was designed and implemented for 8th grade students. Over 30,000 students have been educated to date.  In 2018, the curriculum expanded to high school. In 2019, The State Board of  Education unanimously approved a new rule requiring child trafficking prevention for students K-12. Her Song continues to be partnered with DCPS to implement the ruling and continues to collaborate with the Florida Department of Education to ensure evidenced-based prevention strategies within the content and to complete an exemplary curricula option for all districts.

MISSION

Her Song is interrupting the cycle of human trafficking and leading the exploited to freedom. We do this in three ways: survivor care, victim outreach, and community awareness.

To provide a sanctuary where the young ladies can heal from the devastating effects of human trafficking. By healing lives, we are interrupting the cycles of trafficking in the lives of victims and leading the exploited to freedom. We impact our community in three ways: Survivor Care in both residential and community settings; Victim Outreach; and Community Education and Awareness.

VISION

Her Song envisions a world where every girl is free. Free to live. Free to achieve her dreams and goals. Free to go to school.  Free from harm and abuse. Free from the snare of traffickers.
